Smartphone applications are computer programs designed to run on smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, and applications are the boom that has added to smartphones enormous capabilities and diverse uses.

The term “smart application economy” first appeared in 2008, when Apple launched the “App Store”, which provided 500 smart applications covering various aspects of daily use, running on the “iOS” system.

The following year, Apple launched its famous slogan, “There is an application for that,” indicating that the applications available through its “App Store” cover all aspects of life and perform all functions.

Then applications that run on the “Android” and other systems appeared, so that smart phone applications became an important and effective part of the digital environment.

The economy of mobile applications and smart applications continued to grow at an accelerating pace, according to the latest report by statists. During the first quarter of 2022, the number of Android applications available on the Google Play Store reached more than 3.3 million applications, compared to 3.1 million applications in 2021.

The number of iOS apps available on the Apple App Store was more than 2.11 million versus 2.09 million in 2021, while the exact number of apps may fluctuate as Apple and Google regularly remove low-quality content from their app stores.

The number of mobile application downloads around the world is constantly increasing, and according to a report issued by Sensor Tower, a company specialized in technology and economics statistics, the first quarter of the current year 2022 witnessed more than 36.8 billion downloads through smart phone stores, distributed as follows: 8.5 billion downloads via the App Store and 28.3 billion downloads via the Google Play Store.

The report indicated that the value of what users around the world spent on smart phone applications in the same period amounted to 32.5 billion dollars, distributed between the two main mobile application stores as follows: 21.8 billion dollars on the App Store applications for iPhone devices, and 10.7 billion dollars On Google Play Store for Android devices.

The report stated that the most developed and used applications during the first quarter of this year 2022, were medical applications, navigation applications, travel and mobility applications, shopping applications, education, business and electronic payment.

Earn from smart phone applications

The Android apps that are among the top 200 apps in the App Store have been able to earn around $82,500 per day.

Game apps bring in about $22,000 each day, and entertainment apps make about $3,090 each day.

The application market is recording continuous growth and an increase in the amount of profit from Android applications, and industry analysts expect this growth to remain strong in the future, and according to estimates by statists, mobile applications will generate revenues of more than 613 billion dollars in 2025.

This economy depends on its revenues from selling and downloading new applications, profits from advertising on applications, selling products and introducing companies through these applications, profit from including additional paid features and services in the application, and also attracting investments for applications that present new and distinctive ideas.
